What is dengue?
Dengue is a mosquito borne viral infection which is most common in warm tropical and subtropical areas of the world. It is spread by the bite of infected female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which are also responsible for spreading diseases like chikungunya, Zika virus and yellow fever, etc. The virus enters the mosquito when it bites any person already infected with dengue virus. It is a non contagious disease, which does not spread via person to person contact.
Infection can be caused by any one of the closely related four strains of dengue viruses. They produce a wide range of symptoms in the patient ranging from mild form of symptoms like fever, rashes and joint pain to severe ones, called dengue haemorrhagic fever which may cause severe bleeding, with sudden drop of blood pressure and need of immediate medical intervention and hospitalisation. More severe cases may also prove life threatening, if not addressed on time.
Homeopathy has a very effective role to play in the cases of dengue fever. The best homeopathy doctor prescribed medicines reduce the severity of the disease by helping body to produce the platelets, which decline dangerously during the infection.
Dengue is caused by any one of the four closely related strains of dengue virus, that can thrive anywhere around human lodgings.
When a Aedes aegypti mosquito bite a person already infected with dengue virus, the virus enters into the mosquito and when that infected mosquito bites another healthy person it transports the virus in that person.
A person becomes immune to that strain of virus with which he once gets infected, but it does not provide protection to the other three strains of viruses. A person may still get infected by the other strains, and every time the person gets infected, the risk of developing dengue haemorrhagic fever keep on increasing.
Sign and symptoms
Young people and children may not get any significant symptoms after getting infected with virus. The symptoms usually appear four to seven days after the bite of the infected mosquito and present with symptoms like-
- High fever
- Pain behind eye balls
- Muscle, joint and bone pain
- Nausea and vomiting
- Swollen glands
Most of the symptoms produced in mild cases of dengue fever subside within a week. However, sometimes the symptoms become severe and life threatening with damaging of blood vessels and reduction of clot forming cells, called as platelets in the bloodstream resulting into leakage of blood below the skin. This condition is known as dengue haemorrhagic fever, severe dengue or dengue shock syndrome. This causes sudden fall in blood pressure and requires immediate medical intervention.
The sign and symptoms presenting severe dengue are-
- Bleeding from the gums and nose
- Bleeding under the skin, which looks like bruising
- Blood in urine, faeces and vomit
- Severe pain in the abdomen
- Difficulty in breathing
- Persistent vomiting
- Symptoms of shock, like cold and clammy skin
Factors that may increase the risk of getting infected with dengue virus are-
- Living or travelling to areas where the disease is prevalent, like in tropical and subtropical areas.
- If a person gets infected second time or more by the dengue virus, the chances of developing severe symptoms of dengue haemorrhagic fever keeps on increasing.
If a case gets complicated, the dengue fever can damage lungs, heart and liver of the person. In dengue haemorrhagic fever, blood pressure may drop suddenly and dangerously, which may result into shock and even death in some cases.
Dengue is sometimes missed or late diagnosed, as the symptoms are very much similar to other diseases. The doctor will take careful medical history and look for the rashes over the skin along with some laboratory tests to confirm the diagnosis.
Homeopathy can very well control the symptoms of dengue fever. The medicines prescribed by best homeopathy doctor can help increase the number of platelets within few days and the patient does not require to get hospitalised even in severe forms of the disease.
Moreover, if the homeopathic medicines are given soon after the diagnosis of the disease, they do not allow it to progress to severe forms.
