OVERVIEW:

Dysmenorrhoea or menstrual cramps are throbbing or cramping pains in the lower abdomen. May women have menstrual cramps just before and during their menstrual cycles.

For some women, the discomfort is merely annoying. For others, menstrual cramps can be severe enough to interfere with everyday activities for a few days every months.

CAUSE:

Dysmenorrhoea is mainly caused by hormonal imbalances. Higher levels of prostaglandin hormones are associated with sever menstrual cramps. Other than hormonal causes, some pathological conditions also contribute to the causes of dysmenorrhoea, such as: endometriosis, uterine fibroids, pelvic inflammatory diseases etc.
